Traditional Kintsugi

Here’s a recent piece I was commissioned to repair using the traditional Kintsugi method for a cherished memento ceramic.

The repair was done using only natural ingredients, such as flower and sap of Urushi tree (lacquer) , with a finishing touch of 23k gold powder.⚡︎

It took me nearly a month to complete the entire process, as Urushi (lacquer) requires specific conditions to dry. Controlling the temperature and humidity was key.

These days, modern Kintsugi methods using resin are becoming popular (including in our workshop), but I truly enjoy the process of working with traditional techniques. It takes time to bring the pieces back together, but the result is 100% food safe.

I hope this piece will create new memories to be cherished and passed down from generation to generation.
